Nigerian Vice President Kasim Shettima said that nutrition is at the heart of Nigeria’s vision from the National Development Plan to Agenda 2050.
The VP said the remark while addressing the 2nd United Nations Food Systems Summit being held at the iconic African Hall of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In his keynote address titled "Rising with the sun," he reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to food security, insisting that food insecurity knows no borders.
He said the Presidential Initiative on Food Security scales up maize, rice, cassava, and wheat production with climate-smart solutions, and nutrition is at the heart of Nigeria’s vision from the National Development Plan to Agenda 2050.
He disclosed that Nigeria is making food and nutrition central, and the Nutrition 774 initiative brings the SDGs to all 774 local government areas (LGAs), turning pledges into meals.
Nigeria's VP told global leaders that the 4th Industrial Revolution is transforming Nigerian agriculture using AI, geospatial analytics, and satellite-driven climate intelligence, which is boosting production, transparency, and market access while reducing waste.
He said that through partnerships with AfDB and IFAD, Nigeria’s Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones are creating jobs, attracting capital, and linking farmers to global markets. The school feeding programs and nutrition education are building healthier futures.
The VP outlined Nigeria's commitment to a transformative, private sector-led approach to food systems reform, aiming to position the nation as a continental leader in agricultural innovation.
