Brazil, China, and South Africa have officially signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the GOTTA–BRICS Pathfinder Network, an international observatory project dedicated to monitoring short-duration space phenomena, according to reporting by TV Brics. As detailed by TV Brics, this initiative aims to expand the scientific capabilities of the participating nations by observing transient events such as stellar flares and rapid changes in the brightness of celestial bodies.
The network integrates specialized research facilities across the three countries, including Brazil’s National Laboratory for Astrophysics at the Pico dos Dias Observatory, China’s Xinlong and Lenghu observatories, and the South African Astronomical Observatory, as TV Brics notes.
Furthermore, TV Brics explains that the cooperation extends beyond physical observation to include the development of new technologies for distributed network management, such as artificial intelligence systems for real-time operations, alongside plans for shared data infrastructure and staff training.
Ultimately, this project serves as a preparatory stage for the larger-scale BRICS Intelligent Telescope and Data Network, which TV Brics reports is designed to significantly enhance long-term scientific and technical collaboration among member countries.
