PM Abiy Stresses Trust and Cooperation at BRICS Summit

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has underscored the critical need for international institutions to prioritize fostering mutual trust and facilitating effective cooperation. His remarks came during the opening session on peace, security, and global governance at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Prime Minister Abiy reiterated the call for comprehensive reforms within the decision-making structures of international financial institutions and global norms. These reforms, he stated, are essential for promoting collective security and achieving shared prosperity worldwide.

Ethiopia officially joined the BRICS bloc in 2023, aligning itself with nations committed to both economic alliance and the advancement of a just, equitable, and multipolar global order. As a BRICS member, Ethiopia aims to actively contribute to these objectives, with a particular focus on supporting the expanded representation of emerging markets and developing countries in crucial global decision-making forums.

Highlighting the bloc's increasing influence, Prime Minister Abiy remarked, "BRICS has grown from a bold idea into a dynamic force for global transformation. With the addition of new members, our collective voice grows stronger, our shared purpose becomes clearer, and our potential expands."
