Ethiopia’s Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, has called on university leaders to effectively fulfill their roles in a special summer training program for secondary school teachers and school leaders, emphasizing its critical importance for improving educational quality.
The minister announced that starting next Monday, more than 84,000 teachers and school leaders from across the country will participate in the training, which will be held at 30 universities.
In his message, Professor Berhanu underscored the significant responsibility of university leaders in the program's success. He urged the 30 universities hosting the training to properly receive and instruct the participants. The minister stressed that because the training is vital for education quality, universities must verify that teachers and leaders complete their modules, attend sessions diligently, and are properly assessed.
Dr. Muluken Nigatu, Head Executive for Teacher and School Leader Development, echoed these sentiments, stating that the support and collaboration of university leaders and officials are essential for the training’s successful completion.
At a recent forum, it was announced that participants will receive a certificate after completing and being assessed on subject-specific training. The program builds on a similar effort from last year, which saw over 52,000 secondary school teachers and school leaders receive specialized summer training.
