Upon returning from the UAE, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed traveled directly to Arba Minch to pay his respects to those who lost their lives across the Gamo Zone and to personally assess ongoing relief efforts.

Days of torrential rainfall triggered devastating floods and landslides, as the overflowing Kulfo River inundated neighborhoods, damaging homes, farmland, and vital infrastructure. As communities mourn and rescue operations continue, we stand in solidarity with every family affected by this tragedy.

The Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life resulting from the sudden landslides caused by the Belg rains in Gacho Baba and surrounding districts of the South Ethiopia Region. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing continued support to affected citizens, emphasizing that comprehensive studies and strategic actions are essential to resolving the problem sustainably. He further underscored the critical importance of implementing long-term preventive measures.
