A Russian fitness influencer, Dmitry Nuyanzin (30), has tragically died from heart failure after undertaking an extreme dietary challenge for social media content. Nuyanzin had set out on a challenge to rapidly gain at least 25 kilograms (approximately 55 pounds) by consuming excessive amounts of junk food, with the stated goal of subsequently demonstrating the effectiveness of his own weight-loss routine.
The Extreme Diet and Challenge
To achieve the rapid weight gain, Nuyanzin consumed an extreme diet of up to 10,000 calories per day for several weeks—four to six times the required calorie intake for an average adult. His daily menu included heavy amounts of high-calorie, high-fat, and high-sugar items, such as cakes and pastries for breakfast, nearly two pounds of dumplings drenched in mayonnaise for lunch, and frequent consumption of burgers, pizzas, and potato chips.
A month into the challenge, Nuyanzin had already gained 13 kilograms (28.6 pounds), reaching a total body weight of 105 kilograms (231.5 pounds). In his final online posts, he acknowledged feeling unwell but died in his sleep hours after telling friends he planned to see a doctor.
Medical Warnings and Cautionary Tales
Health experts confirmed that while consuming 10,000 calories once is unlikely to be fatal, maintaining such an extreme routine daily places impossible stress on the body. They noted that the danger lies not just in the calorie count but in the extreme overload of salt, fat, and volume, which forces the internal organs to work much harder.
The rapid, high-calorie intake triggered acute physical responses, including a sharp rise in blood sugar, cholesterol surges, and increased blood pressure. These conditions overwhelmed his heart, leading to the fatal heart failure. Experts now hope Nuyanzin's sudden death will serve as a strong cautionary tale against extreme challenges that involve the deliberate abuse of one's physical health for social media content.
