In a bold move to shape the narrative of human rights on the African continent, China is promoting its vision of human rights through strategic initiatives.

At a forum held today at the Sheraton Addis International Hotel, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai, reaffirmed China’s commitment to advancing human rights alongside African nations.

This event featured the launch of a book filled with quotes from President Xi Jinping focused on human rights.

Entitled “Human Rights Readers' Sharing on 'President Xi Jinping's Key Quotes on Respecting, Protecting Human Rights,’” the forum aimed to highlight Xi’s teachings and their relevance to Africa.

Organizers touted the book’s significance in enhancing human rights education across the continent and fostering cooperation among countries in the Global South.

Translated into various languages, the book aims to promote ideals such as fairness, peace, and development cooperation.

Ambassador Chen emphasized that China views its partnerships with African nations as crucial for promoting a globally equitable approach to human rights. “We stand with various African nations to advance human rights,” he declared, calling for a world that prioritizes equity and mutual respect.

The event also follows recent celebrations marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and China, underscoring the deepening ties between the two nations. By promoting its distinctive understanding of human rights, China seeks not only to influence the global narrative but also to forge alliances with countries that align with its views on sovereignty and governance.

This growing ideological influence reflects China's broader strategy of expanding its legacy in Africa, where it has already made significant economic investments.
