Oumou Sangaré, the Malian Grammy-winning singer currently visiting Addis Ababa, met with Minister of Tourism Selamawit Kassa for discussions on a range of issues.
During their conversation, it was emphasized that the striking similarity between Ethiopian and Malian music, and the familiarity this has fostered between the citizens of the two nations, clearly demonstrates the power of art. They also noted that Ethiopia and Mali share a multitude of cultural and traditional values.
The singer expressed her admiration for the transformation she has witnessed in Addis Ababa compared to her visit seven years ago.
She mentioned that she was able to tour and see the new infrastructure constructed in the capital to accommodate major music events. They also discussed the importance of using art, especially music, to construct a bridge that connects people across Africa.
