Ethiopia, Dangote Group Partner on $2.5 Billion Fertilizer Project

Aug 28, 2025

The Ethiopian government has announced a major new partnership with the Dangote Group to develop a massive fertilizer production facility. The agreement, signed today between Ethiopian Investment Holdings and the Dangote Group, commits to a $2.5 billion investment aimed at transforming the nation's agricultural sector.

In a statement released on social media, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed called the project a "milestone in our journey toward food security and agricultural transformation." The new fertilizer complex is projected to produce up to 3 million metric tons of fertilizer annually, which would place Ethiopia among the largest global producers.

According to the Prime Minister, the project is expected to create jobs and provide a reliable fertilizer supply for Ethiopian farmers who have long faced challenges with availability. He stated that the initiative marks "a decisive step in our path to food sovereignty" and will strengthen Ethiopia’s competitiveness.

Following the signing, officials plan to officially launch the project on-site. The Prime Minister affirmed that the government is committed to seeing the project through, stating it will be completed "for our farmers, for our economy, and for Ethiopia’s future."
