Ethiopia Calls for Accelerated Electrification, Affordable Climate Finance

Addressing the Global Electrification Dialogue during London Climate Action Week on Tuesday, Foreign Minister and COP32 President-Designate Gedion Timothewos called for accelerated efforts to expand electricity access and improve the affordability of climate finance.

Speaking at the meeting convened by the IEA and the COP31 Presidency of Türkiye and Australia, he highlighted the importance of scaling up clean electricity systems and stressed that access to reliable electricity is essential for economic development, energy security, and industrial growth.

The Foreign Minister also emphasized the need for stronger international support to address financing barriers facing developing countries, including expanded risk-mitigation instruments and greater access to affordable financing.
