ADDIS ABABA —Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed (PHD) confirmed that Ethiopia has opened its telecommunications sector to international competition and opened its banking industry to foreign participation as part of its Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda.

Delivering a keynote address at the 2nd African Political Parties Summit under the theme "Governing for Growth," the Prime Minister outlined Ethiopia’s structural transition to a market-based exchange rate aimed at creating an enabling environment for private investment, industrial production, and job creation across the region.

"Our aim is to give businesses room to invest, produce, and create jobs. Under our homegrown economic reform agenda, we opened telecoms to competition and banking to foreign participation. As we carry these reforms forward, citizens deserve clear explanations and steady support,” Noted Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PHD).

Reflecting on national infrastructure statecraft, he highlighted the successful completion and operationalization of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Financed by Ethiopians at home and in the diaspora, the megaproject had stalled before being reorganized by his administration.

He said it supplies clean hydroelectricity to power homes and industries across Ethiopia and neighboring nations, demonstrating how political continuity can drive regional energy integration.
