Ethiopia to Host Landmark 2nd African Political Parties Summit in Addis Ababa

Nov 04, 2026 201

Ethiopia is set to reaffirm its position as the diplomatic cornerstone of Africa as over 1,000 delegates gather in Addis Ababa for the 2nd African Political Parties Summit (APPS), taking place from November 5 to 7, 2026, at the historic Adwa Victory Memorial.

Announcing the finalization of preparations during a press briefing today, Nebiyu Sehul, Director-General of International Relations for the Prosperity Party, revealed that the high-level continental gathering will bring together ruling and opposition party leaders, heads of state, government ministers, scholars, as well as private sector and civil society representatives from across the continent.

Held under the theme "Governing for Growth," the summit is organized by Ethiopia's governing Prosperity Party in collaboration with the Africa Governance Center. The event aims to redefine the role of African political entities, empowering them to transcend routine electoral cycles and serve as primary drivers of nation-building, long-term economic progress, and policy continuity.

The Addis Ababa summit builds upon the foundation laid by the inaugural African Political Parties Summit held in Accra, Ghana, which brought together over 700 delegates from 48 political parties across 30 nations. That landmark event culminated in the adoption of the historic Accra Declaration—a collective commitment to institutional reform, political alignment, and collaborative governance.

During the three-day deliberations in Addis Ababa, delegates from across the political spectrum will engage in strategic dialogue to translate those foundational commitments into actionable policies for sustainable economic transformation and continental integration.

Ethiopia’s selection as host underscores its growing momentum as a model for African development, its ongoing socio-economic reform agenda, and its proven capacity as a world-class conference hub.

The summit presents a strategic opportunity for Ethiopia to share its developmental models and political experiences with leaders from across Africa, reinforcing the spirit of Medemer (synergy) and fostering pan-African solidarity to accelerate collective growth.
