Green Legacy Initiative Boosts Food Security, Says Minister Legesse Tulu (PhD)

Ethiopia's ambitious Green Legacy initiative is making significant strides in ensuring food security and bolstering national granaries, according to Dr. Legesse Tulu, Minister of Government Communication Service.

Speaking today after planting his own coffee seedling at the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) compound in Zenbework, Dr. Legesse highlighted the program's vital role. "The Green Legacy initiative is actively working to guarantee food security and to fill our granaries," he stated.

Expressing his personal satisfaction at being a participant in the nationwide tree-planting campaign, Dr. Legesse underscored the economic importance of coffee, noting that it has already generated over 3.5 billion Birr in revenue for Ethiopia. His contribution, a coffee seedling, was symbolic of this key sector.

EBC staff and management also joined the effort, planting their Green Legacy seedlings at the EBC training compound in Zenbework.

Today's planting efforts are part of a massive, single-day drive to plant 700 million seedlings across the nation. The seedlings chosen are not only economically beneficial but also edible and crucial for mitigating climate change, offering a multitude of advantages.

Another "Adwa" in Green Legacy

Across Ethiopia, citizens are converging on designated planting sites, collectively striving to create history through their Green Legacy contributions.

The Green Legacy program, which transcends all differences including ethnicity, religion, race, gender, color, and political affiliation, aims to blanket the Ethiopian landscape with 700 million new seedlings today alone. As of 9:00 AM EAT, a remarkable 103 million seedlings had already been planted since 6:00 AM, with 4.3 million people actively participating in the monumental endeavor.
