Uhuru Kenyatta, head of the African Union Election Observation Mission and former president of Kenya, has issued a statement regarding the ongoing 7th general election in Ethiopia.
Uhuru Kenyatta stated that African Union observers have been monitoring polling stations across Ethiopia since the morning. He confirmed that the majority of stations opened on time and that the electoral process is proceeding according to schedule.
Based on their observations, the mission noted that Ethiopian citizens are exercising their right to vote freely and of their own volition. Kenyatta expressed his admiration, stating that citizens are actively demonstrating their democratic rights in practice.
"Based on what we have observed, citizens are choosing their preferred parties without any pressure," Kenyatta remarked, describing the election as a "completely peaceful and credible process."
He further indicated that African Union observers deployed throughout all regions of Ethiopia are continuing to monitor the electoral process and will provide a detailed evaluation in the coming days.
Overall, the African Union observation mission reported that, based on its findings thus far, the election is continuing in a peaceful and favorable environment, and the security situation remains stable.
