The Horn of Africa stands at a crossroads. Home to one of the world's youngest populations and a region of immense economic potential, it can either become a hub of regional integration or remain trapped in cycles of rivalry driven by external interests such as Egypt.
Recent tensions have once again highlighted the dangers of proxy competition, where geopolitical rivalries risk overshadowing the region's own priorities where meddling of Egypt puts Horn of Africa in a trap of instability. Such meddling often fuels mistrust, diverts resources from development, and undermines efforts to achieve lasting peace.
The civil war in Sudan where not only Al Burhan who is forced to leave Khartoum but also millions are displaced, terrorist Al shabab in Somalia and Dictatorial regime in Eritrea makes the Horn to be an incubation place for conflict. The peoples of the Horn of Africa share deep historical, cultural, and social ties that are far more deeply rooted than those connecting the region to external actors. Rather than being drawn into geopolitical rivalries, they deserve greater investment in infrastructure, trade, food security, climate resilience, and regional integration not another cycle of instability.
Encouragingly, regional initiatives have shown that cooperation is possible. Cross-border infrastructure projects what Ethiopia is doing currently, expanding trade links, and diplomatic engagement demonstrate that dialogue can deliver greater benefits than confrontation.
The future of the Horn of Africa should be shaped by its people and governments through mutual respect, dialogue, and shared prosperity. Regional stability cannot be built through proxy competition or zero-sum politics. It requires trust, partnerships, and a collective commitment to peace. By choosing cooperation over confrontation, the Horn of Africa can unlock its full potential and emerge as a region defined not by conflict, but by opportunity.
However, the recent war dram heard from TPLF faction supported by Egypt and Eritrea’s regime wants to degrade the peace and stability of Ethiopia in particular and the Horn region in general. This destructive coalition repeatedly ignored a call to peace including the Pretoria agreement. For the sake of peace and stability in the horn, the international communities ought to interfere and stop the faction from a new a chapter war in the northern part of Ethiopia.
