Aug 16, 2025

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today visited Arba Minch, spotlighting a series of development projects and promoting the city as a key component of Ethiopia’s national revitalization efforts. Speaking during his tour, the prime minister emphasized that Ethiopia is being built "on the right and left," marking a period of visible and tangible resurgence.

The visit included a review of the "Gebeta Le Tewlid" (Dine for Generation) project, a national initiative to enhance tourist destinations. Praising Arba Minch as a "truly beautiful place" with intertwined mountains, forests, and water bodies, the Prime Minister expressed his optimism. He stated that with continued beautification and infrastructure work, Arba Minch has the potential to become a major asset and one of the country's best attractions.

The Prime Minister’s comments also highlighted a broader trend of growth beyond the capital. He noted that progress in cities like Arba Minch, Jimma, Bahir Dar, and Dire Dawa demonstrates that viable alternatives to Addis Ababa are expanding. He called on citizens to develop the country's diverse and beautiful locations to create places for future generations to rest, earn money, and reflect. The Prime Minister's vision for these regional hubs underscores a strategy to leverage Ethiopia's varied landscapes and resources for widespread economic and social development.
