Kenyan President William Ruto has strongly criticized Africa's exclusion from the United Nations Security Council, calling it an "unacceptable and indefensible historic injustice."
Speaking at the 7th Summit of the Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government on UN Security Council Reform during the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA), President Ruto argued that the imbalance must be corrected to make the UN "fit for purpose."He urged African leaders to unify their voices and rally behind the Common African Position to secure fair representation. The president affirmed Kenya's full commitment to this effort, stating that the continent's demands should no longer be ignored.
He also cautioned that as Africa pushes for permanent membership, it must be prepared to assume the associated responsibilities, including establishing a clear process for selecting its own representatives.
