"2019 Will Be the Year We Put the Guba Announcements into Action" — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD)

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) declared that the new year will be a milestone era where Ethiopia turns the "Guba good news" into reality and achieves unprecedented success. 

The Prime Minister previously unveiled seven megaprojects: a nuclear development facility, the commissioning of a gas plant, an oil refinery, Africa’s largest airport, a second gas plant, a fertilizer factory, and the construction of 1.5 million homes nationwide. These vast undertakings are set to roll out over the next five to six years, with total costs projected to exceed $30 billion.

In his Ethiopian New Year message, the prime minister emphasized that 2019 will focus squarely on executing these major announcements.

He noted that the coming year will broaden the political space, bringing diverse views and strategies together around the common thread of national interest. He expressed firm confidence that the nation will defend its full sovereignty, fortify multinational unity, boost economic output in both quantity and quality, reassert its leading role in Africa, and forge a legacy of prosperity for future generations.

To reach these ambitious goals, PM Abiy called on every sector of society, highlighting the essential contributions of political parties, public intellectuals, religious leaders, security forces, industry workers, business leaders, resilient farmers, women and youth, honest media outlets, digital innovators, and dedicated, clean-handed public servants. Concluding his address, the Prime Minister shared his warm wishes, expressing deep optimism that the year ahead will write a bright new chapter of fresh ideas, historic progress, and high achievement in Ethiopia’s history.
