Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Gedion Timotheos stated that Ethiopia is undertaking extensive work in the renewable energy sector.
The Minister made these remarks during his speech at the International Energy and Climate Forum held in Vienna. Dr. Gedion highlighted Africa’s unique opportunity to transition toward industrial growth by leveraging its vast renewable energy potential and adding value to critical minerals, thereby reducing carbon emissions.
He noted that addressing urgent obstacles including limited energy access, infrastructure gaps, and market accessibility, is essential. Dr. Gedion explained that Ethiopia is heavily invested in renewable energy plants and the expansion of eco-friendly industrial parks, achieving a clean energy generation rate of over 95%.
The Minister further expressed Ethiopia's firm commitment to developing a climate-resilient green economy. On the sidelines of the forum, Dr. Gedion held bilateral discussions with his counterparts from South Sudan and Austria.
