Ethiopia Approaches its "Resurrection": PM Abiy Ahmed’s Easter Message Links National Path to Upcoming Election

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed delivered an Easter message declaring that Ethiopia is currently witnessing its own resurrection despite a long and challenging journey. He stated that the nation has loosened its shroud, opened its tomb, and torn its seal, asserting that the country is now moving toward an ascension with no turning back.

He explicitly identified the upcoming election in May as a key milestone, describing it as one of the chapters in which the resurrection of Ethiopia will be heralded. He observed that just as the resurrection is inseparable from the Passion, democracy cannot be seen apart from its ups and downs. He further noted that no country in the world has built democracy by traveling on a smooth road and that prosperity requires perseverance.

The Prime Minister’s message categorized the public and their reactions to the nation's changes based on the groups present during the biblical resurrection. He identified the certain who are ready to pay a sacrifice for the truth, the hopeful who expect good things but lack the courage to confront falsehood, and the doubters who remain on the fence. He also described the hopeless who are terrified by rumors, the rumor-mongers who mix truth with hearsay, and the discouragers who aim to distance others from the path of progress due to jealousy and malice.

He concluded with a direct call for these groups to change their stance as Ethiopia approaches her resurrection. He urged those on the fence to come down, the hopeful to become certain, and the rumor-mongers to change from talk to action. He maintained that for Ethiopia, the Passion is over and Friday has passed, calling on citizens to strive with full hearts in the belief that strength is the way out of poverty and patience is the path to democracy.
