US President Donald Trump meets with European leaders at the White House - following talks with Volodymyr Zelensky - on Monday.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte have accompanied Zelensky to Washington.
It follows Trump's landmark meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, where the US leader said they agreed on 'many points'. The Russian president said their talks could 'pave the path to peace' before warning Kiev and the EU not to 'throw a spanner in the works'.
Earlier, Trump posted on social media that Zelensky could "end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to". “No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and no going into NATO by Ukraine. Some things never change!!!" he added.
Talks between Trump and Zelensky ended in a blazing row in February, with the US president telling his opposite number “You don't have the cards right now" and that he was "gambling with World War 3", while VP JD Vance accused Zelensky of being ungrateful, according to Viory media.
