Frank Caprio, the charismatic judge who gained fame as the "nicest judge in the world," has died at the age of 88 after battling pancreatic cancer. His family announced the news via his official Instagram account, where they highlighted his warmth, humor, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people.

For over four decades, Judge Caprio presided over thousands of cases in Providence, using his unique approach to justice to connect with defendants on a personal level. He often went beyond traditional legal proceedings, incorporating empathy and understanding into his rulings. His courtroom became a stage for kindness, where he would invite children to sit beside him or share light-hearted jokes with those in the dock.

Caprio's television show, Caught in Providence, showcased his signature style and quickly became a sensation on social media. Clips from the show garnered billions of views, making him a beloved figure not just in Rhode Island but around the world. One particularly memorable moment involved Caprio introducing a "mini-judge" soft toy modelled after himself, which delighted audiences and exemplified his playful spirit.

In a 2019 interview, Caprio reflected on his role as a judge, stating that his courtroom proceedings offered "a slice of life of Rhode Island that is very interesting." He believed that these moments resonated with viewers nationwide, highlighting common issues faced by individuals across the country.

His son, David Caprio, expressed gratitude to fans for their outpouring of love and support following his father's passing. In 2023, Caprio was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer but remained optimistic about his fight against the disease. He expressed gratitude for the support from his followers and shared updates about his health journey on social media. In one of his final posts, he revealed he had returned to the hospital after experiencing a setback in treatment and requested prayers from his followers.

Judge Caprio is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Joyce Caprio, along with their five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
