African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has praised Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s political leadership and vision for advancing Ethiopia’s transformation, while commending the country for hosting the Second African Political Parties Summit.
Addressing the gathering in Addis Ababa, Youssouf expressed appreciation to Ethiopia for welcoming the continental event and specifically recognized Prime Minister Abiy, inviting participants to give him a round of applause.
He described the summit as a valuable opportunity to highlight the central importance of democratic governance across Africa. Linking the discussions to the African Union’s Agenda 2063, Youssouf noted that the framework underscores the strong connection between peace, development and sound political governance.
Political parties, working alongside civil society, have a vital role in advancing these continental goals, he emphasized. The AUC Chairperson reaffirmed the African Union’s firm commitment to promoting democratic governance, peace, development and greater inclusivity within the political space of its member states.
