Ethiopian Airlines Unveils $150 Million State-of-the-Art Aviation Hub

Ethiopian Airlines officially inaugurated a suite of cutting-edge aviation facilities on Tuesday, representing a significant $150 million investment in its future. The new infrastructure, completed in just two years, includes advanced aircraft hangars, a sophisticated Aircraft Component Shop, and a modern Aircraft Parts Store, all designed to bolster the airline’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities and support its ambitious fleet expansion.

The unveiling ceremony drew a distinguished crowd of senior government officials, diplomats, and industry executives, underscoring the national and continental importance of the development.

Lieutenant General Yilma Merdasa, Ethiopian Air Force Commander and Board Chairman of Ethiopian Airlines, emphasized the strategic impact of the new facilities. "We are moving into a future where Ethiopia and our MRO capabilities are recognized globally," he stated. "Investing in aviation is essential for strengthening our economy, enhancing national security, and fostering innovation."

General Yilma further highlighted the airline's broader vision, adding, "Ethiopian Airlines represents more than just a business; it embodies innovation, resilience, and pan-African success. Today, we reaffirm that legacy." He also acknowledged the collaborative effort behind the achievement, crediting both internal teams and international partners.

Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, reiterated the critical role of this investment in achieving the airline's "Vision2035" objectives. "This facility was completed in just two years, with a total investment of 150 million USD. It is crucial for us to meet the objectives set out in Vision2035," he remarked.

As Ethiopian Airlines continues its continental and global expansion, these advanced facilities are set to provide a robust foundation for sustainable growth, innovation, and the delivery of high-quality aviation services. This strategic expansion not only solidifies Ethiopian Airlines' leadership in African aviation but also promises to foster new opportunities for technical expertise, job creation, and industry innovation across the region.
