The Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) officially opened today at the Addis Ababa International Convention Center, with heads of state, government officials, and African Union commissioners in attendance.
Addressing the summit Minister of Planning and Development Fitsum Assefa (PhD) called Africa to turn climate ambition into concrete investment and partnerships, as the continent seeks to accelerate solutions for a resilient and green future.
In her welcoming remarks, she underscored that the summit is not just a platform for discussion, but a defining moment to “shape an African decade of delivery where ambition becomes pipeline, and pipeline becomes investment.”
Held under the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” the summit is set to showcase African-led climate solutions, mobilize large scale financing, and transform the continent’s natural endowments, human capital, and innovation into shared prosperity.
Fitsum highlighted Ethiopia’s inclusive preparation process, involving the African Union, regional partners, policymakers, youth, and community leaders in shaping the agenda.
The three day summit will move from ideas to action, she noted, with Day One focusing on nature-based solutions, innovation, and resilient infrastructure; Day Two on adaptation and early warning systems; and Day Three on climate finance shifting aid to strategic investment.
She also emphasized the adoption of the Addis Ababa Leaders’ Declaration and a strong Call to Action that will present a united African voice at upcoming global climate negotiations.
