The Dire Dawa Administration's Environment, Forest Development, and Climate Change Authority announced that over 3.8 million seedlings have been prepared for planting as part of the Green Legacy initiative.
Masresha Yimer, Director of Forest Development and Protection at the Authority, stated that various beneficial seedlings have been prepared for this year's Green Legacy program. He noted that the plan is to plant 4 million seedlings, including fruit trees that will help ensure food security for the year, as well as integrated forest species and others.
He further indicated that over 3.8 million seedlings are already ready for planting, and more than 3 million planting pits have been dug.
The director stated that work is underway to plant seedlings on 1,600 hectares of land and that GPS and maps have been prepared for over 1,000 hectares of this area, a state media reported.
He also mentioned that preparations are being made to donate over 200,000 seedlings to neighboring regions and countries to strengthen Green Legacy Diplomacy.
He indicated that the Green Legacy program in the administration will begin soon and called on the community to participate actively.
