Urgent Push Needed to Overcome Amhara's Education Setbacks, Says Chief Administrator

Amhara Regional State Chief Administrator Arega Kebede stated that concerted efforts are needed to quickly overcome the setbacks faced by the region's education system in the new budget year.

The Chief Administrator made these remarks at the Amhara Regional Council's 10th regular assembly, marking the 4th year of its 6th term.

Presenting the 2017 budget year plan performance report, the Chief Administrator explained that the general education system in the region has been challenged by natural and man-made problems due to ongoing security issues.

He noted that millions of students have been out of school due to the security problems, and significant damage has also been inflicted on schools.

He further mentioned that numerous efforts were made in the past budget year to bring about tangible changes in the education sector. These efforts include expanding student feeding programs, providing educational materials, upgrading school standards, expanding access to pre-primary schools, and more.

However, he emphasized that repairing the damage to the education sector in the region still requires the participation of stakeholders, beyond the work carried out by the government.

Therefore, he called for urgent efforts to quickly overcome the challenges faced by the region's education system in the new budget year.
