Ethiopia has officially launched the construction of its first-of-its-kind national integrated rehabilitation treatment center, a significant stride in the nation's healthcare development. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key officials, including Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba.
During her address, Dr. Mekdes highlighted the government's sustained focus on the health sector, noting its efforts to expand infrastructure and ensure the availability of essential resources. While acknowledging existing initiatives in mental and physical support services, she emphasized the critical need for more work to ensure these services are accessible to all, particularly those who have sustained mental and physical injuries.
According to Dr. Mekdes, the new center is a clear indicator of the government’s commitment to healthcare. Once completed, the facility will provide comprehensive support and rehabilitation services, setting a new standard for care in the country.
Dr. Tariku Tadesse, Director General of the Ethiopian Physical Support Services, echoed this sentiment, stating that the center will become the nation’s premier facility for individuals with mental and physical injuries.
According to FBC, the project will span 17 hectares and is expected to be completed within three years.
