Global Efforts to Bolster Food Systems Take Center Stage in Addis Ababa

The Second United Nations Food Systems Conference, a collaborative initiative between Ethiopia and Italy, has convened with the primary goal of enhancing the global food system.

Lena Savelli, Deputy Director of the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, highlighted the conference's objective to evaluate progress made at national levels in improving food systems. Speaking to EBC, Savelli emphasized that this gathering offers a crucial opportunity to ensure the fulfillment of commitments established during the inaugural Food Systems Summit held in Italy in 2021.

Savelli underlined that the Addis Ababa conference serves as a vital platform to strengthen cooperation in the realm of food systems. She elaborated that the event is designed to foster greater collaboration among governments, between public and private sector entities, civil society organizations, and research institutions.

While acknowledging the robust efforts of many nations to bolster their food systems, Savelli also recognized the persistent challenge posed by insufficient financial resources. She pointed out that approximately three-quarters of the global population still lacks access to adequate nutrition, stressing that the conference will underscore the critical need for sustained political commitment to address this pressing issue.
