Oct 06, 2025

Ethiopian diaspora communities across the United States, joined by international guests, held a vibrant celebration to mark the successful completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

The high-profile event drew attendance from Ethiopia's Ambassador to the U.S., Binalf Andualem, along with ambassadors from Nile Basin nations, religious leaders, water scientists, and Ethiopian diaspora members representing various U.S. states.

Participants emphasized that the GERD project transcended political differences, serving as a powerful and unifying force for the entire diaspora community. Attendees expressed their profound joy that the dam has reached completion and is ready for its inauguration.

Diaspora members underscored the immense feeling of pride derived from achieving the GERD victory through self-reliance. They further urged continued collaboration and support to ensure the successful completion of other ongoing national development projects.

Ambassador Binalf Andualem stated that the Renaissance Dam represents more than just an electric power plant; it is a powerful symbol of Ethiopia's era of resurgence. He noted that the project has revitalized the spirit of Pan-Africanism and replaced the mindset of "it's impossible" with a culture of "it's possible."

The Ambassador acknowledged that the diaspora's contribution to the GERD went beyond financial support, encompassing invaluable knowledge and expertise. He concluded by calling on the diaspora to lend their full support to the other massive projects currently underway in the country to secure renewed national victories.
