Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed recognized 700 of the country's top taxpayers at the 7th Annual National Taxpayers Recognition Program, emphasizing that the government’s development goals rely entirely on their fidelity.
In his address, the Prime Minister declared, "The government's aspiration for development can only succeed through loyal taxpayers."
The ceremony honored 700 national taxpayers, with 105 receiving Platinum status, 245 Gold, and 350 Silver. Additionally, 30 institutions were given special recognition for maintaining Platinum taxpayer status for four consecutive years.
Following the ceremony, PM Abiy Ahmed used social media to reinforce his message, stating that the transformation visible across the city's corridors "stands as living testimony" to promises made last year to invest tax contributions in vital public goods.
He further underscored the link between integrity and nation-building: "As we continue to strengthen systems to eliminate corruption, I urge all taxpayers to reject anyone engaged in such harmful practices. Together, we can build a transparent, accountable, and prosperous nation."
The Prime Minister also highlighted the nation's financial progress, noting that the plan to increase Ethiopia's domestic revenue and its tax-to-GDP ratio by one percent annually was successfully met in the most recent fiscal year, 2017 E.C. (2024/2025 G.C.).
The event, held at the Addis Ababa International Convention Center, was attended by a host of senior officials, including the speakers of the House of Peoples' Representatives and the House of Federation, high-ranking federal and regional government heads, and city mayors.
