Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his delegation arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, this morning to attend the 24th COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit.

The 24th COMESA Summit, currently the central focus of the regional bloc, is scheduled to conclude its high-level meetings in Nairobi, Kenya, on October 9, 2025. The Summit itself is preceded by several preparatory ministerial and business forums.

The overarching theme guiding the 24th gathering is “Leveraging Digitization to Deepen Regional Value Chains for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.” To achieve this, the key agenda focuses on implementing tangible actions centered on integrating digital tools across all member states.

These specific initiatives include scaling the use of electronic Certificates of Origin, establishing common frameworks for interoperable digital payment systems to benefit Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs), and developing automated smart border procedures aimed at significantly reducing bureaucratic and logistical barriers to regional trade.
