Oct 14, 2025

"Ethiopia's efforts in the agricultural sector to ensure food sovereignty are commendable," stated Brazilian President Lula da Silva.

The remarks were made during the 2nd Global Alliance Initiative Country Cooperation Forum, held on the sidelines of the World Food Forum in Rome, Italy.

The forum saw the participation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Ethiopia's Ambassador to Italy Demitu Hambisa, and leaders and experts from various nations.

President Lula da Silva specifically noted that the initiatives Ethiopia has undertaken to secure food sovereignty are worthy of praise. He highlighted the work done in the agricultural sector to achieve food self-sufficiency through various encouraging initiatives.

Ambassador Demitu, in turn, reported that tangible results have been recorded from Ethiopia's work to achieve food sovereignty. She pointed to the 'Ye lemat Turufat,' or 'Bounty of the basket,' program, implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), as a successful example, having achieved remarkable results. The ambassador stressed that the program has significantly increased the production of eggs, milk, honey, and fish.

It was also noted that the Global Alliance Initiative for Country Cooperation, of which Ethiopia is a member, was established at the instigation of Brazil, FBC reported.
