Ethiopia's Prosperity Hinges on Developing Bale's Wealth, Breaking the Cycle of Aid Dependency Reiterates PM Abiy Ahmed

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D.) has emphasized that Ethiopia possesses immense, sustainable wealth, particularly in the Bale region, which should be the focus of the nation's efforts to achieve prosperity.

In discussions with former and current leaders, titled 'The Tale of Sof Umar,' the Prime Minister declared, "Bale holds wealth that will last in Ethiopia," noting that the resources are so vast they "will not quickly deplete even if we cultivate and develop it."

Expressing profound regret, PM Abiy stated, "I could not answer the question of why Ethiopia became so aid-dependent despite possessing the natural resources in the Bale region." He stressed that it is the shared responsibility of all citizens for the current generation to "wake up, move beyond destruction, develop the natural resources in Bale, and escape from relying on external assistance." He reiterated the strong conviction that "generations should not relay a dependence on aid."

The prime minister underscored the importance of generational responsibility, stating, "A country is not built by a single generation; one generation does not start and finish it; a country is built through the relay of generations." He added that achieving the nation's vision of prosperity "demands the diligence, effort, and hard work of all Ethiopians," noting that "peace and prosperity do not come without hard work and effort."

Finally, PM Abiy urged a forward-looking perspective: "The conflict we have with the past hinders us from moving forward significantly; we should only look back for lessons." He affirmed that Ethiopia is a country with "many potential resources," and developing them is key to guaranteeing the nation's prosperity.
