Ethiopia, Romania Pledge to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Ethiopia and Romania have agreed to strengthen their historical bilateral relationship and expand cooperation in several key areas following a high-level meeting in Addis Ababa today.

Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hadera Abera, hosted his Romanian counterpart, State Minister Clara Staicu, for discussions aimed at deepening the longstanding ties between the two nations. 

During the meeting, Ambassador Hadera stressed the importance of boosting both political and economic cooperation. He particularly highlighted the need to expand collaboration in critical modern sectors, including capacity building, cybersecurity, technology transfer, and artificial intelligence.

The Ethiopian State Minister acknowledged the successful launch of Romania's international training programme in Ethiopia focused on post-conflict stabilisation and reconstruction, underscoring its importance for future joint efforts. Ambassador Hadera also noted Ethiopia's unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, urging collective action in the region. 

For her part, State Minister Clara Staicu affirmed Romania's strong interest in expanding its cooperation with Ethiopia, identifying significant potential for collaboration in areas such as education, development assistance, digitalisation, tourism, and agriculture, with an emphasis on capacity building. 

The two officials concluded the discussion by agreeing to enhance overall cooperation in various fields, including trade and investment, and to ensure the continued advancement of bilateral ties through regular political consultations.
