A massive, one-day tree planting campaign is underway across the Benishangul Gumuz Region, spearheaded by regional President Ashadli Hassan. Starting at the early hour of midnight, the initiative aims to bolster local green development and combat environmental degradation in the area.
President Ashadli Hassan, along with senior regional leaders, is actively participating in the planting efforts, visiting Aburamo and Banbasi districts within the Assosa Zone to plant trees alongside local community members.
The initiative seeks to not only increase the region's forest cover but also to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility amongst the residents for the environment.
During his visit, President Ashadli emphasized the importance of continued participation and care for the newly planted trees. "We must continue to strengthen our local green development by actively planting and nurturing these trees," he stated, urging the community to take ownership of the project's success.
The tree planting program is part of a broader regional initiative to address deforestation and promote sustainable environmental practices.
Officials hope the mass planting will significantly contribute to improving the region's ecosystem, combating climate change, and enhancing the livelihoods of local communities who depend on forest resources.
