Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) on Tuesday addressed the House of Peoples' Representatives, declaring the Ethiopian calendar year 2017 E.C. as "a year of success in which we made great and seemingly impossible things a reality in the history of Ethiopia."
He proudly announced that the collaboration between the government and citizens has resulted in the planting of over 48 billion seedlings.
During his address, the Premier emphasized that more than 25 million Ethiopians participate annually, showcasing "the strong unity and cooperation between the government and the people in advancing national development goals."
PM Abiy stressed that this massive project was achieved through the hard work of millions of Ethiopians. He underscored its global significance by stating, "If Ethiopia spends $1 for one seedling, it means the country has spent $48 billion for the world's climate."
Responding to queries from members of parliament, the prime minister highlighted the substantial impact of the nation's homegrown economic reform. He stated that the policy aimed at transforming Ethiopia’s economy from being primarily agricultural to a more diversified one has proven highly successful. Since its implementation, a clear direction has been established, enabling the government and the people to work together toward sustainable development.
This reform, he indicated, is now concentrating on five main priority sectors: agriculture, industry, mining, tourism, and technology. To further accelerate the nation’s development, PM Abiy stressed that the government is partnering with the private sector, the public, and partner organizations to achieve fast-paced growth.
