Ethiopia Building an Air Force That Fits Its National Stature, Commander Says

Lieutenant General Yilma Merdasa, Commander-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Air Force, announced today that the nation is currently developing a formidable air force worthy of Ethiopia's stature.

The Commander-in-Chief made the remarks during a consultative meeting with residents of Bishoftu town and the surrounding areas, held in advance of the Air Force's upcoming 90th-anniversary celebration.

Lt. Gen. Yilma underscored the Air Force's storied past, highlighting its "glorious track record" of successfully protecting Ethiopia's national sovereignty across various historical periods.

He affirmed that the ongoing development aims to create a truly great institution that is a "source of national pride" for the Ethiopian people.

The 90th-anniversary events will be held under the theme: "The Ethiopian Air Force: A Symbol of Freedom and Unity."

Celebrations are set to feature a range of public activities, including a major Aviation Expo and a thrilling Air Show.

The Commander stressed that the anniversary is not just an institutional milestone but also plays a vital role in national development, the growth of the Air Force itself, and the image-building efforts of Bishoftu town. According to ENA, he called upon local residents to intensify their participation in maintaining peace and beautifying the town.
