PM Abiy Inaugurates Fully Restored Fasil Ghebbi

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, accompanied by First Lady Zinash Tayachew and a delegation of senior federal and regional officials, officially inaugurated the meticulously restored Fasil Ghebbi today. The extensive, year-long restoration project has successfully breathed new life into the treasured UNESCO World Heritage site, enhancing its beauty and accessibility while safeguarding its profound history.

The comprehensive work focused on repairing the ancient palace structures, improving pathways, and carefully restoring key buildings like the palaces of Emperors Fasil, Yohannes I, and Eyasu I, alongside historic gates, bridges, and baths. To maintain the site’s authentic character, traditional materials such as cedar and wanza wood were utilized throughout the project.

Beyond structural preservation, the initiative included significant upgrades to visitor amenities. The site now features a new tourist center, modern public restrooms, and improved lighting and security systems.

Furthermore, the project saw over 40,000 square meters of the site professionally landscaped, adding vital greenery and creating a more inviting atmosphere for local and international tourists.

Completed in just one year, the swift and thorough restoration ensures the long-term preservation of this remarkable cultural landmark, guaranteeing that future generations can experience the majesty of Ethiopia’s historic capital.
