Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has confirmed that a rapid development drive is underway in Bahir Dar, focusing on sports, tourism, and logistics, following his official visit to the city.

The Prime Minister’s observations focused on the three core areas of infrastructure development:

CAF-Compliant Stadium Nears Completion

A key focus is the Bahir Dar International Stadium, which is being intensively upgraded to align with the technical standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The 52,000-capacity venue has seen significant progress, with officials confirming that both spectator seat installation and the laying of the professional-grade grass pitch are complete. Other essential internal infrastructure works, including the complex lighting systems, are reportedly being executed at speed.

Felega Giyon Resort to Boost Tourism and Jobs

The government is also prioritizing the expansion of the tourism sector. PM Abiy noted the construction of the Felega Giyon Resort along the picturesque shores of Lake Tana. This new resort is modelled on the successful Gorgora Eco-Resort. Authorities project that once operational, the facility will not only stimulate the city's tourism economy but will also create substantial employment opportunities for the region's youth.

Logistics Hub Signals Urban Modernity

Finally, the Prime Minister highlighted a crucial investment in connectivity: the new Ethio-Ferries branch office, currently being built by the Ethiopian Maritime Transport and Logistics (ETLL) Enterprise. According to the statement, this project, when combined with other parallel developments along the Lake Tana coast, will play a major role in propelling Bahir Dar toward a "new phase of urban development and modernity."
