Ethiopia's newly launched national passport has earned a prestigious Red Dot Award, one of the world's most respected accolades in design. 

The international jury recognized the passport for its exceptional design, advanced security features, and unique storytelling elements.

The award specifically celebrated how the passport successfully integrates national narrative and heritage alongside cutting-edge security technology.

Selamawit Dawit, General Director of the Immigration and Citizenship Services, received the Red Dot Award at a ceremony held in Berlin, Germany.

The Red Dot Design Award is an international, annual design competition established in 1954, awarding ‘exemplary’ products across three main disciplines: Product Design, Brands & Communication Design, and Design Concept. An international jury evaluates submissions to decide winners in their respective categories.

The win marks a significant recognition of Ethiopia's commitment to modernizing its travel documents while preserving its rich cultural identity.
