Africa Unites Behind Ethiopia's Bid to Host COP32

Ethiopia has secured the full backing of African nations to host the 32nd United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32). The announcement was made during the regular session of the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), currently taking place in Belém, Brazil.

Ethiopia had previously signalled its strong interest and demonstrated its readiness to host the major global summit in Addis Ababa during the initial Leaders' Summit of COP30.

The collective support for Ethiopia's candidacy was officially unveiled as technical negotiations and discussions began at the conference. The announcement came through the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), currently chaired by Tanzania, confirming the acceptance of Ethiopia's proposal.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Brazil, Ambassador Leulseged Tadesse, addressed the conference, expressing the nation's gratitude.

Ethiopia holds great respect for the African countries for supporting its request to host the summit, and their confidence in Ethiopia's success is encouraging,Ambassador Leulseged stated. Ethiopia thanks them for this crucial support.

Ambassador Leulseged affirmed that Addis Ababa is fully prepared to accommodate guests with preparations befitting an event of COP32's magnitude. He also called on non-African nations to lend their support to the bid.

Ethiopias bid is now expected to proceed through the remaining formal acceptance processes to be confirmed as the host of COP32.
