The Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) has officially relocated its main office to the former Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) building in the heart of the city, marking a significant step in the nation's technological development.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, joined by high-ranking government officials, on Sunday officially presided over the inauguration.
The move follows a remarkable, year-long renovation that transformed the facility into a state-of-the-art workspace, reflecting modern architectural standards and creating an highly conducive environment for the Institute's staff.
In the past five years, the EAII has rapidly ascended, confirming Ethiopia's active presence in the global tech race and underscoring AI's quickening role in shaping daily life.
The Institute is currently fulfilling a leadership role by contributing to the health, agriculture, and service sectors. It is also aggressively scaling up its capabilities across key technological domains, including cloud computing, big data, data mining, robotics, and immersive technologies.
The new headquarters also features the recently launched Artificial Intelligence Start-up Center, designed to fortify the local innovation ecosystem.
This center provides a vital platform for citizens to develop their concepts, offering the support necessary to create prototypes, scale their solutions, and ultimately secure funding by connecting with private sector investors.
So far, the Center has already empowered 200 idea creators through this initiative.
