Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D.) has called for a unified national strategy on Artificial Intelligence (AI), stating that AI and similar modern technologies "determine the future destiny of the coming world."

The PM made the remark last year in Parliament while providing responses and explanations to questions raised by members of the House of Peoples' Representatives. Prime Minister Abiy emphasized the critical need for a "consistent vision" and a sharp focus on human resource development to navigate the rapidly changing global landscape.

"The pace of the world is extremely frightening," the Prime Minister stated. "If we do not work on contemporary Artificial Intelligence and similar technologies, it will be impossible to remain competitive in production."

The Premier highlighted that the world is evolving at an unpredictable speed across new fields of innovation, specifically citing rapid progress in: Artificial Intelligence, Connectivity, Bioengineering, Space Technology and Robotics.

Dr. Abiy warned that technologies like robotics are already replacing traditional human approaches. Recognizing this risk, he stressed, requires future-oriented work and a proactive approach to technology transfer.

The Prime Minister underscored the necessity of preparing the youth, urging that children must acquire "basic knowledge" in AI and related modern technologies. He asserted that to maintain a competitive edge, Ethiopia must keep pace with this technological transition.

Finally, Dr. Abiy urged national unity in pursuing this goal: "Instead of suspicion and conflict, we must work with the understanding that strengthening the unity of the country is the common stance of all of us."
