Ethiopia, DP World Vow to Deepen Strategic Partnership to Cement Africa’s Logistics Hub Status

Ethiopia and DP World have agreed to significantly strengthen and expand their strategic partnership, a collaboration vital to achieving Ethiopia’s goal of becoming Africa's premier commercial and logistics center.

The commitment was formalized during a meeting in Dubai between Dr. Jamal Beker, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the UAE, and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World.

Ambassador Dr. Jamal briefed the CEO on the government’s progress, emphasizing concerted efforts to work in closer partnership with DP World on critical infrastructure. This focus includes dry port development, expansion and modernization of logistics infrastructure, and diversification of trade corridors—all aimed at facilitating the flow of imported and exported goods in the region.

The ambassador stressed that this initiative demonstrates Ethiopia's unwavering commitment to regional and continental economic integration. He affirmed that, to realize this vision, Ethiopia will continue to work collaboratively, expanding the horizons of its partnership with DP World, a company that possesses vast experience in the sector.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem reaffirmed DP World's support, noting that the company's investment in Ethiopia is both sustainable and of strategic importance for the regional community. He pledged to support Ethiopia's ambition by accelerating the implementation of existing joint projects.The discussion concluded with a mutual agreement to work in coordination and to actively explore new avenues for cooperation. These areas include digital logistics, supply chain development, and the construction of free economic zones.
