Ethiopia is inviting Canadian investors to leverage the success of its ongoing economic liberalization efforts, following high-level talks in Addis Ababa aimed at expanding the strategic partnership between the two nations.

State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hadera Abera, met with the Canadian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Nicolas Simard, to review bilateral relations that span more than six decades. Ambassador Hadera commended Canada’s constructive and consistent support across key areas, including development cooperation, humanitarian assistance, and peace and security initiatives.

The minister highlighted that Ethiopia's Homegrown Economic Reform (HGER) agenda has created a significantly improved environment for foreign capital and noted that while opportunities across the Ethiopian economy are vast, the current volume of business engagement remains a mutual opportunity for growth. He encouraged Canadian companies to increase their footprint, positioning themselves to benefit from the country's proactive move toward a more private sector-led system.

Ambassador Simard, for his part, reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia's sustained development. He praised the strength of the long-standing bilateral relations and confirmed his government’s interest in expanding investment. Canada is looking to deepen cooperation in key, future-focused sectors, specifically naming aerospace, renewable energy, agro-processing, agriculture, and education.

Both officials concluded by underscoring the importance of maintaining strong, high-level diplomatic dialogue through the regular convening of political consultations.
