The Government of Ethiopia and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) have officially signed a partnership agreement to ensure the successful delivery of the 32nd Conference of the Parties (COP32).
The agreement solidifies Ethiopia's role as the host nation for the landmark climate summit. The partnership stems from high-level discussions held between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and UN Secretary-General António Guterres on November 23, 2025, during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.
Under the terms of the deal, UNECA will act as a primary technical partner, providing comprehensive support to the COP32 Presidency. This includes mobilizing institutional expertise and coordinating resources across the global United Nations system to assist Ethiopia in managing the diplomatic and logistical demands of the summit.
