Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has officially launched the Digital Ethiopia 2030strategy, following what he described as the near-total achievement of the country's 2025 digital milestones.
The new six-year roadmap aims to build on the successes of the previous initiative by focusing on accessibility, citizen equality, and bolstering trust between the public and state institutions.
A central component of the 2030 strategy is the significant expansion of public digital infrastructure. The Prime Minister stated that these efforts are designed to create a "people-centered"digital ecosystem, intended to directly improve the daily lives of Ethiopian citizens.
"Expanding accessibility and creating equal opportunities for citizens are among the key foundational pillars of the strategy,"the Prime Minister shared in a statement today.
The initiative is closely aligned with the governments broader "Medemer"(synergy) philosophy. By streamlining bureaucracy through technology, the administration seeks to modernize state functions and enhance efficiency across all sectors.
The completion of the 2025 phase marks a significant shift for Ethiopia, which has seen rapid growth in its digital economy, including the liberalization of the telecommunications sector and the expansion of mobile money services.
