Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed spearheaded a series of high-level initiatives in December 2025, headlined by the official visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This historic visit, which included a rare joint address to the Ethiopian Parliament, resulted in strategic agreements on mutual administrative assistance in customs, the establishment of a Data Centre at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a memorandum on UN Peacekeeping Cooperation.

Beyond technology, December was a month of deep diplomatic coordination. PM Abiy hosted Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Kenyan President William Ruto for talks on peace in the Horn of Africa. On the continental stage, he engaged with UNECA Executive Secretary Claver Gatete and AUC Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf to champion "Africa-led solutions" as the country prepares to host COP32 in 2027.

Domestically, the Prime Minister launched Digital Ethiopia 2030, a successor to the 2025 strategy designed to revolutionize the nation’s technological landscape. This ambitious roadmap targets 5G expansion to 100 towns, a nationwide scale-up of digital payments, and the development of a robust artificial intelligence ecosystem, all underpinned by the "Medemer State" vision of citizen-focused governance.

PM Abiy underscored that universal electricity and internet connectivity remain the essential pillars for this inclusive growth. The month concluded with a call for national solidarity at the 20th Nations and Nationalities Day in Hoseana, where the Prime Minister likened Ethiopia’s diverse population to an "unbreakable rope" woven from many threads, announcing Jimma as the host for next year’s celebrations.
