'Our Slumber Worries Me More Than AI,' Says Ethiopian Prime Minister

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has warned that Ethiopias progress is threatened more by internal "sluggishness"than by the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Addressing academics, Dr. Abiy argued that AI serves to simplify grueling human tasks rather than simply "stealing"jobs. "What worries me is not AI, but our own speed and our sleep,"he said, urging the nation to prepare the next generation for technological competition or risk being left behind.

The Prime Minister cited the construction of intelligence centers, the Science Museum, and a new AI University as foundations for this transition. Sharing his personal experience, he noted that AI is helping him complete significant work in a much shorter time than before. He concluded that the "Generation of Ideas"must use technology as a tool to solve Ethiopias challenges.
